Traffic
engineering monitors traffic usage and growth trend and helps determine
adjustments in network/system resource allocation accordingly. For example,
logical data pipes connecting various end-points can be re-sized dynamically or
quasi-dynamically based on SLA, application requirements, actual usage, or
time-of-the-day/day-of-the-week traffic trends and patterns. Traffic engineering
also supports the provisioning of redundancies to assure reliability
requirements.
