The IEEE 802.* is a family of standards for use in
Local Area Networks (LAN) and Metropolitan Area Networks (MAN). These extremely
popular and widely used standards describe the physical and data link layers,
and also include various management aspects of the protocol family: bridging and
management, logical link control, etc. Technologies in this family include
Carrier Sense Multiple Access (Commonly known as Ethernet, although 802.3 is
slightly different than original Ethernet), Token Ring, Token Bus, Security,
Wireless LAN, Personal Area Networks, etc.
