There are many architectures for deploying “fiber in
the loop”, where “loop” refers to the “subscriber loop”, the last length of
cable between a network provider and a subscriber. FITL architectures vary from
deploying fiber feeder plant (between central office and remote terminal site);
fiber-to-the-curb (FITC); and, ultimately fiber-to-the-home (FITH) where the
optical network unit (ONU) is located at each home. Hybrid Fiber Coax (HFC)
architectures have emerged to reduce implementation costs.
