The Core-Based Tree (CBT) protocol is a network layer
multicast routing protocol that builds and maintains a shared delivery tree for
a multicast group. The sending and receiving of multicast data by hosts on a
subnetwork conforms to the traditional IP multicast service model. CBT is
suited to inter- and intra-domain multicast routing in the Internet. CBT may
use a separate multicast routing table, or it may use that of an underlying
unicast routing, to establish paths between senders and receivers.
