Border Gateway Protocol 4 (BGP-4) [RFC 1771] from
IETF Inter-Domain Routing working group is an inter-Autonomous System routing
protocol exchanging network reachability information with other BGP systems.
This information is used to construct a graph of AS connectivity from which
routing loops may be pruned and some policy decisions at the AS level may be
enforced. It is similar to IDRP ["Information Processing Systems -
Telecommunications and Information Exchange between Systems - Protocol for
Exchange of Inter-domain Routing Information among Intermediate Systems to
Support Forwarding of ISO 847 PDUs", ISO/IEC IS10747, 1993].
