STEP provides a representation of product information
along with the necessary mechanisms and definitions to enable product data to
be exchanged. It applies to the representation of product information,
including components and assemblies; the exchange of product data, including
storing, transferring, accessing, and archiving. STEP is being developed by a
broad range of industries to provide extensive support for modeling, automated
storage schema generation, life-cycle support, plus many more data management
facilities.
